The St. Regis Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club - Equestrian Luxury in an Urban Paradise

It might just be us, but if someone asked us to picture a huge complex of polo fields, Dubai wouldn’t be the first place that would come to mind as its location... but the beauty of Dubai is just that; the place which never fails to surprise and amaze. Of course, in true Dubai style this isn’t your average polo field complex. This is a luxury accommodation offering, with both hotel rooms and residential properties as well as an array of dining outlets, a gorgeous spa and a breathtaking pool area. This is the St Regis Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club....

The offerings here are impressive; a 136 room St. Regis property, 162 villas, a polo club, a polo academy, a riding school and 520 stables. We were lucky enough to check out the St. Regis part of the complex and felt we couldn’t have chosen a better one-night escape from the hustle and bustle of the city! Located in Dubailand, the St. Regis is a little bit far away from the main tourist hub of the city, but for us living and working in the heart of Dubai it was a quiet and peaceful change!

Let’s start with the rooms! The rooms are huge, with bold and uniquely different interiors to other hotels we’ve stayed. While the decor is predominantly equestrian themed, one of the most interesting pieces of artwork in the room is a portrait of a beautifully modest Arabian lady which makes up one of three images on the room’s main feature wall. The feel of the room is light and airy and the crisp white bedding is as soft and comforting as it is inviting. We adored the stunning marble bathroom with its luxurious gold fittings equipped with a large bathtub and an incredible rain shower.

While the rooms at the St Regis Al Habtoor are exquisite, the terraces are certainly the focal point. Our personal butler proudly opened the patio doors to show us onto the terrace and we were blown away by the incredible polo field views from the room. As an added touch, all guests are served a welcome drink on their terrace upon arrival, and as we arrived super early these cappuccinos were a godsend!

Unfortunately there was no polo match being played during our stay but we were fortunate enough to see the riders practicing out on the fields. It was such a treat to sit outside and watch! For equestrian lovers, there is a section of the lobby dedicated to the polo club which includes information about upcoming games, trophies and awards and images of celebrities and royalty watching the polo.

Neither of us are big sun-worshippers, but whenever we stay in hotels in Dubai we always make an effort to spend at least an hour or two by the pool. The pool area at the St. Regis is stunning, surrounded by plush white cabanas and sun loungers with a bar at its centre. Guests can simply swim up and meet one of the attentive bar staff to order from an extensive menu of drinks and snacks. The amazing cocktails are a must-try!

In true foodie fashion, we’re always starving after a morning at the pool so we headed to Andalucia, the hotel’s Mediterranean all-day-dining option. We were disappointed to see that there was no lunch buffet, but the associate explained to us that lunch would be served ala carte due to the hotel’s low occupancy. We both fancied burgers and were served huge portions; the food was good, if a little oily. Being the only guests in the restaurant, it did lack atmosphere, but the interiors are gorgeous and the restaurant definitely has potential.

Breakfast was served in the same restaurant, this time in buffet form. Again, we were the only guests in the restaurant which led us to believe we might be the only guests in the whole hotel! Seriously, we didn’t see any other guests throughout our entire stay! Breakfast was great, with a good variety, and we loved the little miniature juice bottles!

Other outlets include the St. Regis Polo Bar, the Equestrian Lounge, Oasis for Arabian Cuisine, the Grill Pitt Steak Restaurant and Taperia for Tapas. We’re already making plans to come back for dinner in the near future!

Overall, the The St. Regis Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club is a really beautiful property and definitely has potential to be one of Dubai’s iconic properties. It’s well located for shopping lovers who want to visit the Dubai Outlet Mall, and for those who have seen the sights of Dubai and want to relax away from it all. We loved our stay and the only thing missing was other guests to share the gorgeous hotel with!
